Sunday School Sermon: President Tinubu’s Faith In Action Amidst Fuel Subsidy Challenges

In the book of James, we are reminded that faith without deeds is dead, chapter 2, verses 14-17, it says:

“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

As citizens of our nation, Nigeria, we have recently heard the President address the challenges caused by the removal of the fuel subsidy. While the President’s words may offer assurances, we, as responsible citizens, must understand that our faith in leadership should be accompanied by actions of our own.

In today’s sermon, we will discuss the significance of putting our faith into action, reducing waste, and holding both the state and federal governments accountable in order to rebuild our nation and restore hope to our people.

**1. Understanding the Power of Faith:**

The Bible reminds us in Hebrews 11:1 that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Our faith in the President’s promises may have lifted our spirits, but we should remember that our faith should also inspire us to take practical steps towards a brighter future.

In James 2:17, we are cautioned that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Therefore, we must allow our faith to be the driving force behind our actions for positive change.

**2. The Role of Responsible Citizenship:**

The Bible encourages us to be responsible citizens and contribute to the welfare of society. In Romans 13:1, we are reminded to “be subject to the governing authorities” and to fulfill our obligations as responsible citizens. It is not enough to merely expect the government to solve all our problems; we should actively participate in community development and support one another.

In Galatians 5:13, we are called to serve one another in love, and in doing so, we play a crucial role in the progress of our nation.

**3. Cutting Waste and Being Good Stewards:**

The Bible emphasizes the importance of stewardship and wise use of resources. In Luke 16:10, Jesus teaches that “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” This principle reminds us to be mindful of our actions and use resources efficiently, avoiding unnecessary extravagance. By cutting waste, we exemplify responsible stewardship and contribute positively to the rebuilding of our nation.

**4. Pressure on Government:**

As citizens, we have the right and responsibility to hold our leaders accountable. Proverbs 29:2 states that “when the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” It is through peaceful protests, responsible advocacy, and constructive dialogue that we can put pressure on both state and federal governments to ensure transparency and accountability.

In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, we are encouraged to pray for our leaders, seeking wisdom and guidance for their decision-making.

**5. Emphasizing Unity and Collaboration:**

The Bible speaks extensively about the importance of unity among God’s people. In Ephesians 4:3, we are urged to “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Unity is essential in working together for a common goal, and we must set aside our differences and come together as one.

In Psalm 133:1, it says, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” By working together in harmony, we can overcome challenges and rebuild our nation stronger than before.

**Conclusion:**
In conclusion, our faith in action must be guided by biblical principles. We should be encouraged by the President’s intentions but also recognize that it is up to us, the citizens, to contribute actively and responsibly to our nation’s growth.

Through cutting waste, holding the government accountable, and working together in unity, we can pave the way for a brighter future for Nigeria. Let our faith in action be a shining example to the world, demonstrating the power of biblical principles in rebuilding a stronger, more prosperous, and compassionate nation for all.
