Suspects Connected To Notorious Bandit Leader Bello Turji Plead Not Guilty

The accused—Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (also known as Doctor), Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma—denied the accusations when the 11 counts were presented to them before Justice Emeka Nwite at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) previously reported that although eight defendants were listed in the charges, three of them, including Bello Turji, are currently at large.

When the case was called, only four of the defendants appeared in court. Justice Nwite inquired about the whereabouts of the third defendant, Bashir Abdullahi. David Kaswe, representing the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), informed the court that Abdullahi was also unaccounted for, acknowledging the oversight and apologizing to the court.

Kaswe then requested permission to record Abdullahi as “at large,” and the judge granted this application.

According to NAN, the Federal Government, through the AGF’s office, filed an 11-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/633/2024 against the eight defendants, four of whom remain at large. The charges were officially dated and filed on December 16 by M.B. Abubakar, Director of the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation. Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu, Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma have been designated as the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th defendants, respectively.
