November 1, 2022 – Today Canada’s Immigration Minister, the Honorable Sean Fraser, released the countries immigration targets for the next three years. The numbers are at an all-time high, Canada will endeavour to welcome  465,000 new immigrants in 2023, 485,000 in 2024 and 500,000 in the year 2025. 

The Immigration Levels Plan is a guide for the Canadian government, as it continues to grow the country’s economy post-pandemic. Currently, there are 1 million job vacancies, the government hopes to fill these economic gaps by  increasing the number of intake applicants in the following 3 categories: 

• Express Entry  
• Provincial Nomination Programs 
• Post Graduation Programs Admissions 

The Numbers

Increases are also being made to Family Reunification class that will see the sponsorship of Parents and Grandparents  applicants grow to just under 100,000 spaces over the next 3 years. 

Its ALL about the Economy 

Critical labour shortages are presenting challenges for Canadian businesses, to remedy the situation Canada’s  immigration schemes will target-market skilled applicants required in key sectors including but not limited to Health  Care, Skilled Trades, Manufacturing and Technology. Heavy emphasis has been placed on STEM (Science,  Technology, Engineering and Math) which the country sees as areas-for-improvement in the coming decades. 

More focus will be placed on regional programs, such as the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, Rural and  Northern Immigration, including the redistribution of newcomers to small towns and rural communities.
