Tarex, The King of the Youths: Meet the Youth Coordinator for Asiwaju 2027 in Edo State
In what can only be described as a watershed moment in Edo State politics, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) suffered a dramatic collapse as the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, led top-ranking members of the party and the entire House into the welcoming fold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It wasn’t just a political decampment—it was a resounding declaration that the progressive wave has swept across the state with full force. What many thought was improbable became reality as all 18 members of the House now proudly wear the APC badge, leaving the PDP grasping for relevance.
This momentous defection did not pass quietly. The APC, led by Executive Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, hosted a grand civic reception to welcome the new members into the party—a celebration of unity, strength, and the dawn of a renewed political direction for Edo State.
It was at this powerful convergence that High Chief Lucky Ohimai, fondly known across the state as Tarex, was officially appointed Youth Coordinator for Asiwaju 2027 by Governor Okpebholo. This appointment was no surprise to those who have followed his political trajectory—it was the natural recognition of years of dedication, impact, and visible loyalty to the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
As he was called upon to make his remarks, the atmosphere became charged. The hall erupted in chants of “King of the Youths! King of the Youths!” “Odogwu” The applause was deafening—not orchestrated, but organic. It was the people giving their verdict. Tarex wasn’t just accepted—he was celebrated.
In his address, High Chief Lucky Ohimai expressed deep appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for the honour bestowed upon him. He pledged unwavering allegiance to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the President as a generational leader whose transformative leadership must be sustained beyond 2027.
But who is Tarex beyond the titles and applause?
Tarex has long been the embodiment of grassroots politics done right. During the 2023 general elections, and even in the recently concluded Edo Governorship election, he was a relentless force—moving from community to community, not just to canvass votes, but to deliver impact. He provided clean and portable water, empowered market women with grants, supported local traders, awarded scholarships to indigent students, and touched lives in ways that politics often fails to do.
His campaigns left behind legacies. His presence in a community meant development. That’s the kind of leadership young people look up to—one that speaks the language of progress, not just promises.
What started in his beloved Owan has now extended to Ovia, and from there, to every corner of Edo State. And now, with this appointment, he steps into the ring as a symbolic commander of the youth army backing the re-election of one of Nigeria’s most transformative leaders—President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This appointment is timely. It is strategic. And most importantly, it is deserved.
In an era where youth representation often gets reduced to tokenism, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s decision to appoint Tarex as Youth Coordinator is a bold statement—one that affirms that loyalty, track record, and impact still count in Nigerian politics.
High Chief Lucky Ohimai is more than just a politician—he is a movement, a bridge between the government and the governed, a reflection of what youth leadership should look like in today’s Nigeria.
The APC is stronger with him. Edo youths are prouder because of him. And Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 vision just gained a vibrant new voice.
