TCN Issues New Update After Rainstorm Brings Down Power Tower In Lagos
According to IReporter Online, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that a severe rainstorm caused the collapse of a transmission tower along the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV line in Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred on April 16, 2026, was described by the company as a force majeure event resulting from extreme weather conditions beyond its control. In a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN explained that the transmission line experienced a fault during the storm, leading to a trip along the corridor.
The statement indicated that the fault was detected approximately 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja West (Ayobo) end of the transmission line. Subsequent inspection by maintenance engineers confirmed that Tower 515 had collapsed at its midsection during the rainstorm, causing disruption along the route.
TCN further disclosed that it has begun mobilising personnel and materials to rebuild the damaged structure, with engineers already on site working to dismantle debris and commence restoration efforts.
Despite the setback, the company assured that interim measures have been implemented to reduce the impact on power supply. It noted that system flexibility and redundancy along the transmission corridor are being optimised, adding that an alternative line remains operational for bulk power evacuation.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to restoring full capacity on the affected line and pledged to keep the public updated as repair works progress.
