Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, a Nigerian singer, has been nominated for Best Original Score for the song ‘Lift Me Up,’ which she co-wrote with Rihanna for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Tems was nominated for the award alongside Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and Ryan Coogler, all of whom contributed significantly to the song.

The song, which was released on November 4, paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who played the franchise’s lead before dying in 2020 from colon cancer.

This year alone, the multi-award-winning singer has been nominated for at least 12 awards and has won half of them. Tems tweeted in response to the news of her nomination, “My God!! This one is excessive.”

On April 29, she appeared alongside Drake on Future’s single, Wait for U, from the latter’s ninth studio album, I Never Liked You. The song debuted at the top of the Hot 100, making Tems the first African female artist to do so.

Tems also covered Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry for the soundtrack to the upcoming Marvel film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Tems’ fourth Hot 100 entry, ‘Free Mind’ from For Broken Ears, debuted on the chart on July 26.
