According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has expressed her views on marriage, stressing that it should be guided by growth, purpose, and compatibility rather than solely by emotions.

In a recent interview with media personality Angie Martinez, the Grammy-winning artist highlighted that love, while important, should not be the only foundation for a lifelong commitment. Tems emphasized that marriage comes with challenges and requires realistic expectations, noting that couples must acknowledge and navigate inevitable difficulties together.

The singer also underscored the importance of accountability in relationships, stating a preference for a partner who is God-fearing. “My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to? If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?” she said.

Tems further argued that relationships built solely on emotions may struggle to endure, and that true compatibility goes beyond feelings. “If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want,” she added.

She explained that marriage should foster personal growth and transformation, stating, “Marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should. It shouldn’t be about only love; it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, like it evolves you.”
