Popular businessman Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Chief Priest, has called on people in Nigeria’s South-East to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. According to Chief Priest, such backing could pave the way for the release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu and increase the likelihood of an Igbo candidate ascending to the presidency in the future.

Speaking on social media, Chief Priest commended a South-East traditional ruler who personally delivered a message to the President in Abuja, urging either the release of Kanu or his return to Kenya, where he was initially arrested. The businessman noted that appearing in person was crucial to ensure the President clearly understood the concerns of the South-East.

Chief Priest advised the region to collaborate with the current administration rather than remaining in opposition, emphasizing that confrontation with the government would be unlikely to achieve desired results. He suggested that cooperation could open avenues for dialogue and potential action regarding Kanu’s detention.

Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, he noted that Tinubu secured victory without significant support from the South-East and warned that a similar outcome could occur in 2027 unless the region reconsidered its political strategy. He urged citizens to consider supporting Tinubu in order to strengthen their political influence and increase the chances of an Igbo presidency in the future.

Chief Priest highlighted Tinubu’s previous role in facilitating the political paths of former President Muhammadu Buhari and his own presidential victory, arguing that, with strong support from the South-East, power could be transferred to an Igbo candidate in a subsequent administration. He concluded by stressing the importance of alignment with the current government, asserting that the region’s strategic support could yield meaningful political gains.
