The President issued this directive on Thursday during a meeting with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, at Nigeria’s State House in Abuja.

During this visit, Tinubu also accepted Letters of Credence from Al-Shamsi and two other envoys at the State House. The diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the UAE has encountered challenges, primarily concerning restricted flights between the two countries due to unresolved issues surrounding the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). This situation has been further complicated by visa restrictions. The UAE is a significant destination for Nigerian migrants and tourists.

Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed the President’s commitment to intervening personally in the diplomatic impasse between Nigeria and the UAE. Tinubu emphasized the need to address the issues as family matters and to seek an amicable resolution. He likened the relationship to a family living in the same house but occupying separate rooms. He highlighted the importance of reaching agreements on essential aviation and immigration matters.

The UAE Ambassador expressed his affinity for Nigeria, considering the country’s historical significance, its leadership role in Africa, and its reputation for hospitality. He expressed his gratitude for the progress in negotiations and agreements between the two countries, characterizing the ongoing issues as minor ones within the context of a family. He also extended his appreciation to President Tinubu for his leadership and asked to be considered as part of the Nigerian team.
