Tinubu Removes Mohammed As NMDPRA Boss, Announces New Appointment
President Bola Tinubu has relieved Saidu Mohammed of his duties as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), just months after his appointment, in a move described by officials as being in the public interest.
According to Ireporter Online, the President has also put forward Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Mohammed’s replacement, with the nomination subject to confirmation by the Senate. The decision was conveyed in an official statement issued on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the action aligns with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021.
The statement emphasized that the leadership change is part of broader efforts by the administration to enhance efficiency and oversight within the midstream and downstream segments of Nigeria’s petroleum industry, in line with its Renewed Hope policy direction.
It further clarified that pending legislative approval of the new nominee, the most senior official within the NMDPRA will assume interim leadership responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations.
