President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate implementation of long-overdue pension increases and the establishment of a minimum pension guarantee to ensure a safety net for the nation’s most vulnerable retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), according to IReporter Online.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed that President Tinubu gave the directive after a comprehensive briefing from the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran.

According to IReporter Online, the President also mandated an urgent resolution of the long-standing police pension debacle, stressing that officers who served the country must be able to retire with dignity and peace of mind.

According to IReporter Online, the PenCom DG informed the President of ongoing initiatives to safeguard the value of pension assets amidst rising inflation and economic challenges.

She also highlighted plans to incorporate foreign currency contributions, which would allow Nigerians in the diaspora to participate in the national pension scheme.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his support for the ongoing reforms and reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, enhanced retiree welfare, and broader coverage of the pension system.
