Tragedy In Benue: Dangote Truck Crushes Three To Death On Gboko–Aliade Road

According to Ireporter Online, tragedy struck in Benue State on Friday when a Dangote truck reportedly crushed three people to death at Luga, a suburb along the Gboko–Aliade road. The victims, identified as two brothers — Orgem Ugondo and Aondozungwe Ugondo — both from the Mbatan kindred in Mbayion, Gboko Local Government Area, and an unidentified female passenger, were said to have died instantly.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that two Dangote trucks were allegedly racing side by side on the narrow road when one, in an attempt to overtake, rammed into a Bajaj motorcycle from behind, resulting in the fatal crash. The remains of the deceased were later evacuated to a mortuary in nearby Agidi, while the trucks involved were seized and taken to the Gboko Police Station.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of the Gboko branch of Dantrans, the transport unit of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Adamu Alfa, described the crash as a “sad occurrence.” He clarified, however, that the trucks in question were from the company’s Ibese Cement Plant in Ogun State and not from the Gboko plant.

Alfa further stated that Dangote Industries has been conducting weekly safety sensitisation and orientation programmes for its drivers to promote responsible driving and prevent such tragedies.

As at the time of this report, while the two brothers had been identified, the female passenger, believed to have been given a lift by them, was yet to be identified.
