The Ibru family, hailing from Agbarha-Otor Kingdom in Delta State, confirmed her death through a statement from her son, Paul Ibru. The statement, shared with the press in Warri, stated that the family would announce funeral arrangements later.

Paul Ibru’s statement read, “Our wonderful mother passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. She was vibrant until the end, and we did not expect her departure so soon. However, we accept God’s will for her life.”

He further described her as “a lover of people, a mediator, a mother to many, incredibly humorous, deeply caring, humble, and always full of stories. We will miss her dearly.”

Edna Ibru, who was crowned Miss Nigeria in 1964, was the first Nigerian and African to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant. She had two children with her late husband, Felix Ibru.
