Huttle, 42, was killed after allegedly resisting arrest in northwest Indiana. “A confrontation occurred between the suspect and the officer, leading to the officer discharging his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect,” the statement explained.

Huttle had been one of around 1,500 individuals charged or convicted in connection with the Capitol riot, who received pardons from Trump. The pardons were granted shortly after Trump took office, sparking backlash from Democrats and some Republicans.

Huttle had served a six-month sentence and was released last July. His uncle, also involved in the Capitol assault, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting police officers with a flagpole.

The news continues to draw attention to the ongoing fallout from the January 6 attack and the controversial pardons issued by Trump.
