University Of Abuja Dismisses 28 Students For Exam Malpractice And Cult-Related Offences
University of Abuja has expelled 28 students over various disciplinary infractions, including examination malpractice, cult-related activities and result falsification, according to Ireporter Online. The decision was reached during a Senate meeting of the institution after deliberations on the recommendations submitted by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Director of Information, Habib Yakoob, the university disclosed that the affected students were found culpable of offences ranging from threats to life, assault, conspiracy, burglary and theft to involvement in cultism and the possession and use of illicit drugs. Some were also accused of uploading forged O’Level results on the institution’s admission portal.
The statement further revealed that several of the students failed to appear before the disciplinary panel despite multiple invitations. Consequently, the Senate approved the withdrawal of certificates previously issued to 15 former students who repeatedly ignored summons to appear before the committee.
After reviewing additional cases, the Senate exonerated nine students of any wrongdoing, while 33 others received official warnings for misconduct such as conspiracy, hostel racketeering and fighting.
Vice-Chancellor Hakeem Fawehinmi reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment, stressing that the institution would continue to uphold its regulations and enforce discipline. He commended the Student Disciplinary Committee for its thorough review of the cases and urged students to conduct themselves responsibly to safeguard their academic future.
