US Indicts Nigerian, 323 Others In Massive $14bn Healthcare Fraud Crackdown
The United States Department of Justice has charged a Nigerian, Olatunbosun Osukoya, along with 323 other individuals, over their alleged involvement in extensive healthcare fraud schemes that reportedly led to intended losses exceeding $14 billion.
According to a statement released on Thursday via the DOJ’s website, the defendants — including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and other licensed medical professionals — were indicted across 50 federal districts and 12 State Attorneys General’s Offices in the US.
The statement revealed that the coordinated operation, tagged the 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, resulted in criminal charges against 324 defendants, who allegedly defrauded Medicare, TRICARE, and other insurers.
Focusing on Osukoya’s alleged role, the DOJ disclosed that the 67-year-old, owner of Ayo Biometrics, LLC (operating as Cambridge Diagnostics in Plano, Texas), submitted over $25 million in fraudulent medical claims. It was alleged that he targeted individuals with insurance plans for costly EEG tests, and paid kickbacks and bribes to physicians and others to secure patient referrals.
“To disguise the fraud and make the claims appear legitimate, Osukoya and his associates allegedly fabricated diagnoses and falsely labeled illicit payments as loans, medical directorships, and consultation fees,” the statement read.
The DOJ further stated that Osukoya’s company received over $5 million in payments from these claims and that he disbursed more than $450,000 in illegal kickbacks.
Meanwhile, the report also recalled that a France-based Nigerian, Newton Ofioritse Jemide, was recently sentenced to over three years in prison in the US for his role in an $8 million disaster fraud scheme, after being extradited from France.
