Victor Ikpeba Encourages Super Eagles To Embrace 2025 AFCON Draw

Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has urged the Super Eagles to approach the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw with optimism.

Tunisia, known for winning the 2004 AFCON by defeating Morocco in the final, eliminated Nigeria in the round of 16 during the 2021 edition of the tournament. Acknowledging Tunisia as the group’s toughest opponent, Ikpeba also noted that Uganda and Tanzania, though improving, are unlikely to pose significant challenges for Nigeria, currently ranked 5th in Africa.

Ikpeba, a key member of the Super Eagles’ victorious 1994 AFCON squad, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to excel against all their group-stage opponents, including Tunisia. However, he stressed the need to respect every team, regardless of their perceived strength.

“When I compare the Super Eagles’ group with others, I see this as a favorable draw,” Ikpeba told SuperSport. “It won’t be easy, as smaller teams have shown great progress in recent tournaments. Still, I’m confident we have the quality to advance.”

The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
