Wike Launches Fresh Round of Water Projects in FCT Satellite Towns

After concluding a 16-day stretch of project commissioning in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on July 3, 2025, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commenced a new phase of infrastructure rollouts, with a focus on water treatment and supply.

According to iReporter Online, a statement released by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister, confirmed that on Tuesday, August 19, the Minister would commission the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

The momentum continues on Wednesday, with the flag-off of Lot 1 of the Construction and Expansion of Water Supply to Satellite Towns, starting with Bwari Township in Bwari Area Council.

By Thursday, Minister Wike is expected to flag off Lot 2, which will cover Karu town and surrounding communities in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

According to iReporter Online, these initiatives form part of the FCT Administration’s broader water infrastructure strategy, as previously highlighted by Minister Wike during the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project commissioning held on June 16, 2025.

At the time, the Minister revealed that a new agreement was signed during President Tinubu’s 2023 state visit to China, focusing on extending water access to underserved satellite communities such as Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.

Wike also emphasized that the procurement processes for these projects were nearing completion, with firm commitments for timely execution and delivery.

These fresh projects, according to iReporter Online, underscore the FCT Administration’s determination to deepen infrastructure development and ensure equitable service delivery across both urban and rural communities in the territory.
