What Obaseki Is Asking Shaibu To Do Before Accepting Apology – Sources
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has made it clear to his embattled deputy, Philip Shaibu, that he must abandon his governorship aspirations as a prerequisite for Obaseki to accept his public apology.
Philip Shaibu had previously implored his principal to forgive him for his past actions.
Shaibu, who has been at odds with the governor over his desire to succeed him as the next governor of Edo State, expressed his plea in an interview with journalists last week.

In response to Shaibu’s plea, Governor Obaseki stated that his deputy must relinquish his governorship ambitions before their rift can be peacefully resolved. This information comes from various sources who informed PM News Nigeria.
Obaseki, who recently returned from his annual overseas vacation, emphasized that he would not engage with Shaibu until the latter publicly renounces his governorship aspirations, demonstrating unwavering loyalty.
Reportedly, the governor convened a two-day session in Lagos titled “Exco retreat with Mr Governor” and summoned all Edo executive members. The meeting took place last Saturday and Sunday, but the deputy governor was neither informed nor invited.
According to sources, the State Executive Council meeting for the week was held in Lagos until Monday, the 25th. All Exco members, excluding the Deputy Governor, were invited.
There are reports that Obaseki has threatened to withdraw Shaibu’s security allocation and exclude him from all government activities, including Exco meetings, if he participates in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries.
To avoid public scrutiny, it is alleged that the governor instructed his aides to schedule an Excos lecture a day before the meeting, allowing third parties to attend. This was done to ensure that the meeting would not be perceived as a formal but rather an emergency Exco meeting.
Also invited to the meeting was the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alaghodaro, Asue Ighodalo, who is the governor’s preferred candidate for next year’s gubernatorial election.
“It is expected that the governor will unveil and introduce his successor to all Exco members in Lagos this week,” a source who attended the seminar told PM News.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation regarding the Excos meeting held in Lagos were unsuccessful, as none of the governor’s aides were willing to comment.
In the meantime, the governor had a similar meeting with the 24 members of the State House of Assembly in Rwanda two weeks ago.
