Wike Declares Nigerian States Financially Poised For Major Development Projects

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that Nigerian states are now more financially capable of embarking on capital projects compared to previous administrations. He made the remark yesterday during the inauguration of the 15.13-kilometre Ika-Azumini Road in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, which connects the state to Abia State.
Wike commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ending the oil subsidy regime, describing the move as pivotal in making more funds available to states for life-changing projects. He recalled the challenges of securing resources for development during his tenure as governor, noting that much of the money had been diverted to oil subsidies.
“Your governor has confirmed that more funds are now flowing into the state, enabling projects to be executed without incurring debts. This progress is possible under the leadership of President Tinubu, which has made resources accessible for state development,” Wike said.
The minister also praised Governor Umo Eno for his role in constructing the Ika-Azumini Road, emphasizing the positive impact on local communities. Wike highlighted the unprecedented scale of development under the current administration, noting the visible improvements and public satisfaction.
Governor Eno, in response, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for empowering states financially, ensuring projects could be executed without borrowing. He reiterated Akwa Ibom’s united support for the President’s administration and for Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, emphasizing the state’s commitment to sustainable, debt-free development.
