Youth Leader Killed, Nine Houses Set Ablaze Amid Election Dispute in Imo

According to a statement by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, the attack stemmed from a youth election held on January 3, 2025, in which Nwoke emerged victorious. Preliminary investigations suggest that a faction led by Chinaza Nwachukwu and others, who are currently at large, orchestrated the violence.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the killing and visited the community alongside his team to assess the situation. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and assured residents of the police command’s commitment to justice and security.

Authorities have arrested four suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing perpetrators. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue, and the injured victims are receiving medical care.

The police have reassured the public that normalcy has been restored in the community, with enhanced security measures in place. CP Danjuma urged all stakeholders to maintain peace and explore non-violent means of resolving disputes.

The police also called on the public to provide credible information to aid ongoing investigations, urging anyone with useful details to report to the nearest police station or contact the emergency helplines.
