JUST IN: Supreme Court Takes Strong Action In Suits On Naira Scarcity
The Supreme Court consolidated the suits filed by ten state governments against the Federal Government on Wednesday, challenging the implementation of the naira redesign.
On February 15, seven states joined the three initial states as co-plaintiffs, while Edo and Bayelsa joined the Federal Government as co-defendants.
The Supreme Court consolidated the case on Wednesday, raising hopes.
The court, however, refused to include Abia State in the suit because it was late with its originating summons.

All attempts by the Abia State Government to join the suit were rejected, and the state was ordered to present its case at a later date.
Emmanuel Ukala, the Counsel for Rivers State, also argued a motion for consolidation.
Ukala, who moved the motion on notice, based the consolidation request on the need for the suit to be heard without delay because it concerns the same issue.
Justice John Okoro, the panel’s chairman, granted the request and ordered the consolidation of the ten suits into one.
The Attorneys General (AGs) of Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara, Ondo, Ekiti, Katsina, Ogun, Cross River, Sokoto, and Lagos are the plaintiffs in the suit, while the defendants are the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), as well as the AGs of Bayelsa and Edo states.
