₦60,000 Earnings In Nigeria More Valuable Than Foreign Trips, Says Bwala

According to Ireporter Online, Bwala made the statement while featuring on The Morayo Show, where he addressed the experiences of Nigerians who migrated to countries such as the United Kingdom in pursuit of better opportunities.

The presidential aide noted that many Nigerians who moved abroad with expectations of improved living standards are now facing unexpected difficulties despite their educational backgrounds and the advantage of earning in foreign currencies.

Bwala explained that some Nigerian graduates overseas have had to accept jobs outside their fields of study, including employment in care homes, warehouses and other sectors, due to the realities of securing jobs in foreign labour markets.

He added that although some migrants earn thousands of pounds monthly, a significant portion of their income is consumed by essential expenses such as rent, utility bills, transportation, feeding and other daily needs.

According to him, some Nigerians abroad are compelled to take multiple jobs to meet their financial obligations, leaving them with limited savings after covering their expenses.

Bwala described the situation as challenging for many migrants, stressing that the cost of survival in a foreign country can place immense pressure on individuals who lack a strong support system.

He further stated that some Nigerians earning lower incomes at home may still have access to assistance from family members and friends, unlike many people abroad who often have to manage their struggles independently.

The presidential aide said some Nigerians who believe they are suffering locally may actually be in a better position than those who left the country years ago, adding that the reality of migration is not always as favourable as many people imagine.

“Some of you in Nigeria who think you are suffering, you’re better off than your colleagues that japa five years ago. As far as I am concerned, it is modern-day slavery. At the end of the day, what you are left with is not much. So you are forced to do two or three jobs. That ₦60,000 earner can still get support from family and friends, while many abroad have nobody to fall back on,” Bwala stated.
