BREAKING: Fubara Set To Present 2026 Rivers Budget To Assembly

Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to present the Rivers State 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly on Friday, marking a significant step in the state’s budget process after months of political uncertainty.

According to credible government sources familiar with the development, the budget presentation is scheduled to take place at the Assembly Quarters Auditorium on July 10, barring any last-minute changes. Preparations for the event have reportedly been concluded, with officials expressing confidence that the presentation will proceed as planned.

A senior Government House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed that all arrangements had been finalized, describing the day as a major milestone for the state government.

Sources within the Rivers State House of Assembly also disclosed that lawmakers were expected to convene for plenary, during which Governor Fubara is anticipated to formally lay the 2026 Appropriation Bill before the legislature for consideration.

The delayed presentation of the budget had been widely attributed to the prolonged political standoff between the executive arm and the House of Assembly, which stalled several government processes in recent months.

During the period of delay, the governor reportedly relied on the constitutional provision that permits government spending for up to six months in the absence of a duly passed appropriation law. However, that provision expired on June 30, increasing expectations for the submission of a new budget.

Political observers believe the recent approval of the state’s 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the House of Assembly provided the necessary legal and procedural foundation for the governor to present the appropriation bill.

The anticipated budget presentation is also being viewed by many stakeholders as an indication of improving cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government, following months of political disagreements that affected governance in the state.
