[BREAKING] Presidential Election Petition: Court Takes Decision On Judgment In APM’s Petition Seeking Tinubu, Shettima’s Sack
The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has reserved judgment in the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). The APM is seeking the nullification of Bola Tinubu’s election on the grounds that his running mate, Kashim Shettima, was not qualified to contest due to alleged double nomination.
After the parties presented their final written addresses, the chairman of the panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, announced that judgment would be reserved until a later date to be communicated to the parties. The court intends to deliver judgment in the APM’s petition on the same day as the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party.

The respondents in the petition include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, Kashim Shettima, and Kabir Masari (who acted as the APC’s placeholder before Shettima’s nomination).
The APM’s petition is primarily based on the claim that the APC presidential ticket is ineligible due to the issue of the placeholder, Kabiru Masari, as the Vice Presidential nominee and his subsequent replacement with Kashim Shettima. The APM argues that there is no provision for a placeholder.
During the proceedings, the respondents adopted their final written addresses, urging the court to dismiss the petition as it should not have been filed in the first place. The petitioners, on the other hand, urged the court to allow the petitions, stating that they were meritorious.
The APM’s petition was adjourned twice to allow them to obtain a copy of the Supreme Court judgment delivered on May 26, 2023, which settled the issue of the alleged double nomination of Kashim Shettima. The APM presented its sole witness, Aisha Abubakar, an assistant welfare officer of the party, who acknowledged being aware of the Supreme Court judgment that dismissed the allegations of double nomination against Kashim Shettima, instigated by the Peoples Democratic Party.
