In a broadcast “State of the Nation” address on Sunday, Bakare expressed his viewpoint, which resonated with public sentiment and led to a short-lived nationwide protest and extended negotiations between organized labor and the Federal Government due to the fuel price hikes resulting from the removal of subsidies and the increasing cost of living.

During his appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Basiru questioned Bakare’s qualifications to discuss the matter.

While supporting Tinubu’s decisions, Basiru acknowledged the challenging current situation but emphasized that the long-term benefits would improve the country’s economy.

Basiru said, “I must quickly comment on what you played that Pastor Bakare said, although I don’t see him as a politician and, with respect to him, I don’t see him as even competent to say what he has said.

The fact that you are talking about palliatives does not mean that we’re not directly addressing the underlying issues and imbalances in the economy. So, we’re both addressing the issue of immediate relief and dealing with the fundamental problem.”
