However, the deteriorating relationship between Governor Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, was a cause for concern among the party leaders. They deemed this controversy unnecessary, especially considering the upcoming governorship succession in 2024.

The leaders highlighted the importance of equity and other factors like competence and individual acceptability in selecting the next Governor. They emphasized that Edo Central Senatorial District should produce the next Governor, as the district has not legally produced a governor for the state since 1999.

The leaders condemned the act of resorting to court without exhausting the dispute settlement options provided in the party constitution. They urged Deputy Governor Shaibu to withdraw his lawsuit and seek a political solution to the problem with Governor Obaseki.

They called on everyone of goodwill to support Governor Obaseki’s efforts to make Edo great again.
