Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, has emphasized that while he respects freedom of speech, he responds firmly to those who resort to abusive language when addressing him.

Umahi made this statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he discussed the need for contractors to be adaptable to changes in the country’s infrastructure system.

Reflecting on his tenure as a governor, Umahi highlighted his accessibility and responsiveness to communication, even addressing abusive messages.

He acknowledged that democracy grants freedom of speech but emphasized that he too is human and can respond in kind if confronted with abuse.

However, he clarified that he would only apologize if there were instances of service not being delivered. He stated that if individuals criticize him unfairly without reference to the job at hand, he would respond reasonably rather than resorting to offensive language.

Umahi also cautioned against the misuse of public funds, emphasizing the consequences of such actions. He noted that the allocation of public funds should be dedicated to benefiting the public and warned against taking lives indirectly through the misappropriation of funds.

Regarding road construction and development, Umahi mentioned that President Bola Tinubu would allocate funds for high-quality road construction across the country. He acknowledged the challenges associated with road development, particularly the rising construction costs.

Furthermore, Umahi urged civil servants to align with his agenda of providing quality infrastructure for the country. He emphasized that his approach is focused on discipline and hard work and warned against any civil servant attempting to hinder his efforts.

He asserted that he is accountable to God and President Tinubu, and he urged civil servants to uphold their responsibilities as Nigerians are looking for positive change that the government cannot afford to disappoint.
