BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Drops Five Names, Seeks Clearance For 18 Commissioner-Nominees (SEE NAMES)

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has submitted a revised list of commissioner-nominees to the Lagos State House of Assembly, resulting in five names being removed and six new ones added.

The nominees dropped from the original list are Folashade Adefisayo, Solape Hammond, Aramide Adeyoye, Lekan Fatodu, and Rotimi Ogunwuyi.

The new list includes Afolabi Tajudeen, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, Tolani Sule-Akibu, Yekini Agbaje, Iyabode Ayoola, and Sola Giwa.

The governor’s letter, which was read by the Clerk of the House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, during a plenary session on Monday, explained that the revised list aimed to create a balanced selection of previous and new nominees, reflecting a diverse range of backgrounds and political perspectives.

The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, directed the screening committee, led by the Chief Whip, Fatai Mojeed, to reconvene and commence the screening process on Tuesday, with a report expected by Thursday.

The initial list had faced rejection in August, when the Assembly disapproved of 17 out of the 39 commissioner-nominees, leading to controversy. Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that he was confident that the new nominees would bring fresh ideas to promote the growth and progress of Lagos State.

Additionally, the House of Assembly resolved to review the performance of the 2023 budget in preparation for the presentation of the 2024 budget estimate by Governor Sanwo-Olu. The 2023 budget of N1.768 trillion was approved by the House, with Speaker Obasa urging the budget review committee, led by Sa’ad Olumo, to conduct a thorough review and present its report to the House.
