Okocha, who once served as Amaechi’s Chief of Staff, made these allegations in an interview with journalists, shedding light on the strained relationship between them.

Okocha asserted that Amaechi’s dictatorial attitude had led to a souring of relationships within the party. According to him, the former Minister exhibited a tendency to make the party function as a social club, neglecting the interests and aspirations of its members.

The APC chairman criticized Amaechi for not listening to his followers and emphasized that the party under his leadership would participate actively in elections, contesting to win in all wards.

The rift between Okocha and Amaechi reportedly escalated during the 2023 presidential elections, where Amaechi allegedly directed his supporters to vote against President Bola Tinubu, the APC candidate. Okocha revealed that he sided with Tinubu, leading to further discord with his former boss.

Addressing the possibility of reconciliation, Okocha indicated that while he won’t rule out the chance of mending fences in the future, he would not prioritize one individual over the collective interests of the party. He criticized Amaechi for being reluctant to identify with the caretaker committee, emphasizing that pride could lead to a fall.

In a final statement, Okocha asserted his commitment to the philosophy of “the more, the merrier,” refusing to sacrifice the unity of the party for the pursuit of one influential figure. The chairman vowed not to be stampeded into searching for one big man at the risk of derailing the collective interests of the APC in Rivers State.
