The sad news was shared through a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Miss USA organization.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jackie Loughery, a true pioneer who etched her name in history as the FIRST EVER Miss USA in 1952,” the statement read.

Celebrating her legacy, the tribute continued, “Jackie Loughery will forever be remembered as a symbol of elegance and empowerment in the realm of beauty pageants. Her grace, charisma, and intellect captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, paving the path for countless women to shine on the global stage.”

“As the inaugural Miss USA, crowned in 1952, she left an indelible imprint on the pageant world, inspiring generations to pursue their dreams with unwavering courage.”

“While she may no longer be with us in body, her legacy will endure in the hearts of all who were touched by her extraordinary spirit.”

The statement concluded with heartfelt condolences to her family, accompanied by wishes for solace in the cherished memories of her remarkable life, noting her reunion with her beloved pets.

The cause of her death has not been disclosed.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Loughery’s journey to prominence began when she was crowned Miss Rockaway Point in 1947, followed by her title as Miss New York USA in 1952. That same year, she clinched the inaugural Miss USA crown, representing the United States at the inaugural Miss Universe pageant, where she secured ninth place.

Transitioning to Hollywood, Loughery pursued a successful acting career, gracing the silver screen in notable films such as “Pardners” alongside Martin and Lewis and the 1957 drama “The DI.”

Her filmography further includes appearances in classics like “Abbott and Costello Go to Mars,” “Eighteen and Anxious,” and “The Hot Angel.” On television, she showcased her talent in the variety show “Seven at Eleven” and served as Johnny Carson’s assistant on the game show “Earn Your Vacation.”

In her personal life, Loughery was married to US popstar Guy Mitchell before tying the knot with actor Jack Webb. Later, she married Jack W Schwietzer, with whom she shared many years until his passing in 2009.
