Atiku Not ADC Presidential Candidate As Faction Picks Rival Flagbearer

According to Ireporter Online, the faction maintained that it has completed its internal selection process and officially nominated Professor Chris Uba as its presidential flagbearer.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Gombe stated that Atiku “is not, and has never been,” the ADC’s candidate, stressing that the clarification was necessary in the interest of the public and to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.

The faction also disowned a group allegedly linked to David Mark, describing it as an unrecognised and self-styled body with no constitutional backing or legal authority within the party. It further argued that the group lacks recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and therefore cannot conduct congresses, primaries, or make binding decisions on behalf of the ADC.

Gombe noted that the party leadership is aware of ongoing attempts by coalition elements to pressure the ADC into forming political alliances. However, he firmly stated that the party remains independent, adding that it is not in any form of merger, alliance, or coalition with any political platform.

He further disclosed that the ADC has complied with its constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and INEC guidelines in selecting its candidate, adding that Professor Chris Uba was chosen for his competence, capacity, and national appeal.

The faction issued a stern warning to Atiku Abubakar to stop presenting himself as the party’s presidential candidate, insisting that such actions are misleading and unauthorized.

Gombe also described the ADC as a platform committed to credible leadership and national renewal, warning against what he called attempts to use the party as a tool for personal political ambition or external interests.

He added that the party would not tolerate misinformation or activities capable of destabilising its structure, stressing that legal and constitutional measures would be taken to protect its identity and integrity.

The faction reaffirmed its readiness for the 2027 general elections, stating that the ADC would present credible candidates across all levels of government while urging members, stakeholders, INEC, security agencies, and the public to disregard any unauthorized claims or announcements.
