Declare Yahaya Bello Wanted Now, Okai Urges As EFCC Probes N84bn Fraud Allegations
Usman Okai, the House of Representatives candidate for Dekina/Bassa in the 2023 elections, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to promptly declare former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, wanted over alleged misappropriation of funds amounting to N84 billion……READ ALSO Protesters Hit The Streets Of Benin To Voice Their Disapproval Of The Disbandment Of Okaigheles[Youth Leaders]
Okai emphasized the importance of safeguarding the interests of the people of Kogi State amidst allegations of financial impropriety by Bello’s administration.
Amidst claims that the Kogi State government misused funds meant for salary payment and other governmental expenses, Okai highlighted the significance of addressing the welfare concerns of civil servants affected by fiscal malfeasance.
Previously, on August 31, 2021, Justice Tijani Garba Ringim had ordered the freezing of an account following an ex-parte application by the EFCC, alleging suspicious transactions linked to Kogi State funds.
Responding to allegations, Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, defended the government’s use of funds, refuting claims of misappropriation.
However, Okai argued against shielding individuals, including Yahaya Bello, stressing the potential adverse impact on Kogi workers’ welfare.
Recent developments revealed that Bello was implicated in an ongoing corruption case, with allegations of diverting substantial state funds for personal gain.
Expressing concern over delays in formal charges against Bello, Okai urged EFCC to intensify efforts to bring him to justice and encouraged public support for accountability measures.
Okai reiterated the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, emphasizing citizens’ role in demanding adherence to the rule of law.
He emphasized that the pursuit of justice was not driven by personal motives but by a commitment to good governance and fiscal responsibility for the well-being of Kogi State and its citizens.
