According to reports, the clashes intensified over a two-day period, spanning from April 24 to 25, 2024. The epicenter of the conflict was near the Kukawa axis, where the initial skirmishes occurred. ISWAP, known for its tactical prowess and territorial ambitions, swiftly mobilized reinforcements to strategic locations, including recently recaptured areas like Tumbum Allura.

Eyewitnesses and security analysts on the ground, including Zagazola Makama, a prominent counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, provided harrowing accounts of the clashes. Makama highlighted ISWAP’s calculated moves, indicating a well-prepared force armed with ample ammunition and weaponry.

The confrontations escalated as ISWAP forces launched coordinated assaults on Boko Haram strongholds across various locations, including Tudun Shawakki, Tumbum Bakwarram, Mallam Basiru, and Kwaleram. As the clashes spilled over into the early hours of April 26, the battleground expanded to encompass Kandahar and Tumbum Ali Island in Marte Local Government Area. Here, ISWAP gained a decisive advantage, reportedly inflicting heavy casualties on Boko Haram fighters, with over 70 militants feared dead and several others captured along with their weapons.
