Chippa United Slaps ₦2.3 Billion Price Tag On Stanley Nwabali In Transfer Talks

Chippa United, a South African football club, has set a hefty price tag of R30 million (approximately ₦2.3 billion in Nigerian currency) on Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Nwabali emerged as a standout player for the Super Eagles during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament held in Ivory Coast.

Making his debut at the continental event, Nwabali impressed with his assured performance in goal, keeping four clean sheets in seven matches.

The 27-year-old’s stellar performance played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s journey to the final, where they narrowly lost to the host nation. His remarkable display garnered interest from several clubs worldwide.

Clubs like Queens Park Rangers in England’s Championship, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, and Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia have all expressed interest in securing the services of the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Reportedly, Chippa United is demanding 30 million rands for Nwabali, a figure that has deterred Kaizer Chiefs, according to Goal.com.

Given the perceived reasonableness of the asking price by other clubs, Nwabali’s move abroad appears likely. His contract with Chippa United runs until the summer of 2026.

The key question now is whether the interested clubs are willing to meet the substantial fee set by the South African club. Following his standout performance at the AFCON, the demand for the former Katsina United goalkeeper has surged, making him a sought-after player in the upcoming transfer window.
