Reports indicate that the collapse, triggered by heavy rains and strong winds, occurred in the suburb of Ghatkopar, where the 30-meter (100-foot) tall billboard collapsed onto a gas station. Shocking footage circulated on social media and television depicted the billboard swaying precariously before crashing onto parked cars, flattening them and causing extensive damage.
Rescue efforts commenced promptly, with authorities reporting the successful rescue of 89 individuals since the tragedy unfolded on Monday evening. Rescue teams, equipped with heavy machinery, worked tirelessly through the night to sift through the debris and locate victims.
The aftermath of the collapse revealed a scene of devastation, with mangled cars and debris strewn across the area. Over 125 rescuers, including specialized teams and cranes, were deployed to clear the wreckage and aid in the recovery efforts.
Initial investigations suggest that the billboard was illegally installed, prompting authorities to launch a thorough inquiry into the incident. It was also revealed that 32 of the injured individuals have been discharged from the hospital, while efforts continue to provide medical assistance to those still undergoing treatment.
