In their statement, the council emphasized the need for President Tinubu to take decisive steps to uphold peace in the state, urging him to allow the people of Kano to resolve their differences amicably without resorting to violence.
While acknowledging the authority of the State House of Assembly to enact laws for good governance, the council stressed the importance of cooperation and support from the Federal Government.
Highlighting the background of the dispute, the council noted the State Assembly’s amendment of the Kano State Emirates Law, followed by legal challenges and court proceedings. They emphasized the need for civil means to resolve the conflict and opposed any measures that could escalate tensions or lead to violence.
As stakeholders in the state, the council pledged to engage with all parties involved to seek a peaceful resolution to the impasse, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Kano’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states.
The statement was signed by prominent religious leaders and scholars, including Shaykh Abdullahi Uwais Limanci, Shaykh Ibrahim Khalil, Shaykh Abdulwahab Abdallah, and other respected figures in the community.
The council’s intervention underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for responsible leadership to prevent further escalation and preserve peace in Kano.
