Speaking in Abuja at the Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition organized by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) as part of its 60th Anniversary celebrations, General Musa emphasized that the security challenges facing the nation necessitate continuous joint training with a focus on physical training and sports.
General Musa commended the sportsmanship displayed during the competition, highlighting the premium placed on sports by the Armed Forces towards enhancing combat readiness. He stressed the importance of sustaining such training and competition to develop the required capacity to overcome challenges.
Congratulating the participants for their resilience and spirit of sportsmanship, General Musa encouraged them to uphold ideals such as sacrifice, discipline, and teamwork, which are crucial in fulfilling the constitutional mandate of securing the country.
Echoing General Musa’s sentiments, Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, emphasized the importance of sound physical and mental health for the armed forces in fulfilling their duties. Active participation in sports, he noted, helps personnel maintain physical fitness and cope with the rigors of military duty.
CAS Abubakar emphasized that combat sports and rigorous physical fitness training are essential for troops to develop the strength, agility, and stamina required for effective military operations. He highlighted the physiological and psychological benefits of sports, including stress reduction and injury prevention during operations.
The NAF has continued to prioritize the participation of its personnel in sporting activities to enhance sports standards and facilities, improve overall health, well-being, and morale. The Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition saw teams from six NAF Commands compete in various events, with the NAF headquarters emerging as the overall winner.
The event featured combat sports, relay races, casualty evacuation races, tug of war, archery, and invitation races, showcasing the dedication and athleticism of NAF personnel.
