In the wake of a resurfaced throwback video featuring Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, the Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, dated 2020, amid the largest youth protest in the country’s history, which resulted in the destruction of numerous government properties and casualties. It’s worth recalling that the protest was sparked by the oppression of youths by SARS officials and corruption within the Nigerian government.

In the throwback video, Akpata passionately defended Nigerian youths against their oppressors. He asserted that lawful and peaceful protesters should not face harassment or dehumanization by security agencies in any form. Additionally, he called for the apprehension and prosecution of any security official found using force against protesters.

Shortly after the video resurfaced and went viral, Akpata took to his social media handle to share the clip, captioning it, “Throwback to when I lent my voice, both literally and figuratively, in support of our youths during the #ENDSARS protests while serving as President of the NBA. Please excuse my hoarse voice in the video; it was from all the shouting we did alongside our youths to amplify the calls for justice and reform!”

He continued, “The fight persists for a society that listens to and upholds the rights of our dynamic youths. Their voices must never be silenced as we march towards a better Nigeria.”
