Defections Will Not Affect Our Plans For Ondo-2024, Says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state has said that the resignation of a former state chairman of the party, Ebenezer Alabi, and the defection of some of its chieftains would not dampen its resolve to win the November 16th governorship election.

It said it has received more members of the ruling All Progressives Congress within the last two weeks.

The Ondo PDP also carpeted the move by its leaders in the Ilaje local government area to work for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the APC ahead of the polls.

The spokesman for the party, Kennedy Peretei, who spoke in a telephone interview, said it was understandable for its Ilaje leaders to want to work for their son, Governor Aiyedatiwa.

Peretei stated that the party was on course in its mission to defeat the ruling APC.

He said the PDP has a greater advantage at winning the polls.

He said: “The day Alabi said he left our party, we received more than 200 APC members in Ayede Ogbese that left the APC. APC members in Ondo East and Ondo West also joined our party.

“There are a lot of people leaving the APC because of too much hunger and they are saying APC leaders have not lived up to expectations.

“The PDP is still going to have an advantage. No big deal about the Ilaje PDP leaders going to join Aiyedatiwa. It is logical they will want an Ilaje man as Governor.

“That will not dampen our chances of winning the election. We cannot lose sleep over the people that are leaving. The people are behind us in this election.”
