Tinubu Embarks on Strategic Visit to Equatorial Guinea for Oil, Gas, and Security Talks
President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Wednesday for a three-day official visit to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, at the invitation of President Teodoro Mbasogo. This visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations, with a focus on oil, gas, and security cooperation.
According to a statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale on Tuesday, President Tinubu will engage in high-level discussions with President Mbasogo and oversee the signing of critical agreements. These agreements are expected to pave the way for enhanced collaboration in the energy sector and improved security measures along the maritime borders shared by Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
Accompanying the President on this visit will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, along with other key officials who will be instrumental in negotiating and formalizing these agreements.
The relationship between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea has a long history, marked by cordial and brotherly ties. Even before the formal establishment of diplomatic relations, the proximity of the two countries facilitated the migration of citizens and led to inter-marriages. In 1968, following Equatorial Guinea’s independence, the Nigerian Consulate in Malabo was upgraded to a full Embassy, further solidifying the diplomatic bond.
This visit by President Tinubu is expected to reinforce these longstanding relations and open new avenues for cooperation that will benefit both nations.
