Fraudsters Hack Akwa Ibom Governor’s WhatsApp, Attempt Scams

In a recent development, the WhatsApp number of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has been hacked by fraudsters, leading to attempts to defraud several of his contacts. This alarming incident surfaced on Tuesday when individuals on the governor’s contact list began receiving messages from his WhatsApp number, requesting money to be sent to a specified account, with the promise of a refund later.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Ekerete Udoh, confirmed that the governor’s WhatsApp number had been “cloned” by criminal elements aiming to deceive unsuspecting individuals. The CPS emphasized that these fraudulent messages were not from Governor Eno and urged the public to disregard any such requests.

Udoh further assured that law enforcement agencies have been alerted and are actively investigating the matter to apprehend those responsible. “Our attention has been drawn to carefully orchestrated fraudulent posts on some social media platforms, where some criminal elements have cloned the WhatsApp number of His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, with an intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public,” the statement reads.

The CPS warned the public to be vigilant and not fall victim to these scams, reiterating that any messages soliciting funds should be completely disregarded. He also mentioned that the law enforcement agencies are on the trail of the perpetrators.

This incident follows a similar case in July when one of the phone numbers of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was also hacked.
