Reactions Stir as Seyi Tinubu Attends Chief Justice’s Swearing-In
Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, has drawn widespread attention following his attendance at the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria. The ceremony, which took place at the State House in Abuja, has sparked diverse reactions across social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).
A viral image showing Seyi Tinubu comfortably seated at the event has been confirmed as authentic. An investigation by Daily Trust revealed that the picture was neither photoshopped nor altered, further fueling public discourse on his presence at such a high-profile event.
Deadly Attacks in Benue Leave Six Dead
In a tragic development, at least six people were killed in two separate attacks in Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State. The first incident occurred in Iwari community, where one person lost their life. The second attack took place in Olegagbane community, claiming five more lives on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Local sources, who spoke under anonymity, confirmed the attacks, describing the ongoing violence as relentless. The Chairman of Agatu LGA, Phillip Ebenyakwu, verified the incidents, expressing deep concern over the armed invaders who continue to terrorize the region.
“These armed invaders kill, steal, and flee, only to return again. The situation is becoming unbearable,” Ebenyakwu stated.
FCT Minister Wike Commits to Ending ‘One Chance’ Crimes
In a bid to modernize transportation and curb crime in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike has launched the construction of a bus and taxi terminal in Abuja’s Central Business District. During the flag-off ceremony, Wike emphasized that this initiative would significantly reduce the notorious ‘one chance’ crimes that have plagued the city.
Wike highlighted that this new terminal, alongside other ongoing transportation projects, will link road infrastructure to modern, well-equipped bus and taxi terminals, improving the overall security and convenience for residents of the FCT.
The Patriots Push for a New Constitution
In a critical move, a group of elder statesmen known as The Patriots, led by Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has called for the creation of a new constitution to address Nigeria’s systemic issues. The group criticized President Bola Tinubu’s stance that economic challenges take precedence over constitutional reform, arguing that the 1999 Constitution hampers effective governance.
During the official inauguration of the National Advocacy Committee, Anyaoku stated, “No leader, not even an angel, can successfully govern Nigeria under the 1999 Constitution.”
