JOHESU Calls Off Strike, But Pressure Mounts On FG With New Deadline

JOHESU’s demands include a revision of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, a 25% review of arrears from June to December 2023, an increase in the retirement age for health workers, tax exemptions on healthcare allowances, and the immediate release of COVID-19 hazard allowances.
In a statement signed by National Chairman Kabiru Minjibir and National Secretary Martin Egbanubi, JOHESU confirmed the strike’s suspension as of midnight on October 31. The union has given the government six weeks to fulfill its obligations as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Minjibir stated that the decision came after an emergency meeting of the expanded National Executive Council (NEC). Should the government fail to meet the six-week deadline, JOHESU warns that it may initiate an indefinite strike, depending on the NEC’s review of the situation.
