FG Cancels Julius Berger’s Contract On Abuja-Kano Road Over Non-Compliance

during which Julius Berger allegedly failed to meet the revised project scope, cost requirements, and mobilization directives. The Ministry highlighted that despite multiple extensions and an attempt to renegotiate the contract, no meaningful progress was made on Section One of the Abuja-Kano Dual Carriageway, forcing the government to issue a 14-day termination notice.

This development marks a significant turn in the years-long project, initially awarded to Julius Berger in 2018 under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. While progress had been achieved on other sections of the highway, the Abuja-Kaduna portion lagged at only 27 percent completion, raising frustrations from both the government and road users. Current Works Minister David Umahi, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda, has expressed a strong commitment to completing the project promptly, redirecting efforts to alternative contractors to alleviate the strain on commuters and meet national infrastructure goals.
