FG and Minister of Regional Development Extend Relief and Pledge Development Support to Flood-Affected Communities in Etsako Central, Edo State(Video)

In a compassionate visit to flood-ravaged communities in Etsako Central LGA of Edo State, Honorable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, conveyed the profound sympathy and concern of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government for those affected by the 2024 flood disaster. The communities of Udaba-Ekperi, Osomegbe, Agbabu, Ofukpo, and Yelwa in Ekperi Kingdom have been severely impacted by flooding caused by the overflow of the River Niger, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.

The minister’s visit provided an opportunity to witness firsthand the impact of the floods, with countless families forced from their homes and others left living in harsh, unhealthy conditions. The devastation prompted Minister Momoh to pledge not only immediate relief but also substantial support for long-term development. In a gesture of immediate assistance, he distributed bags of rice, essential food items, and monetary aid to help ease the community’s burdens during these challenging times. “President Tinubu feels your pain and distress,” the minister assured the residents, reinforcing the federal government’s commitment to their welfare and recovery.

In addition to the relief efforts, Minister Momoh made a critical pledge to address the developmental needs of these vulnerable communities, beginning with the construction of essential infrastructure in Osomegbe. This commitment aims to lay the foundation for stronger flood resilience and sustainable growth, with additional plans to support infrastructure, sanitation, and health in the region. The minister emphasized that these development initiatives are part of a broader strategy to empower the communities to withstand future disasters.

As the federal government advances these relief and development efforts, this visit stands as a testament to its dedication to uplifting all Nigerians and ensuring that communities like those in Ekperi Kingdom can recover, rebuild, and thrive.
