Prior to the game, the Super Eagles had already secured their spot for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco following a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s unexpected defeat, Rohr suggested that the Super Eagles may have eased up after confirming their qualification, allowing Rwanda to capitalize on the opportunity. “We were under pressure in the match against Nigeria, but we managed to equalize just minutes before the end,” Rohr explained, as quoted by Fraternit.

He added, “Having coached this team, I’ve noticed that they tend to relax when they feel secure about their progression.” According to Rohr, this tendency to ease off can offer opponents a chance to strike, as seen in Rwanda’s surprise victory.

Despite the loss, Nigeria finished at the top of Group D, while Rohr’s Benin Republic secured second place.
