NAF Fact-Finding Team Arrives In Zamfara Over Casualty Reports

The team was sent by the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, to investigate reports of civilian casualties following a NAF airstrike on January 11, 2025.

A statement from NAF headquarters, signed by Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, confirmed that the team will engage with state and local officials and other stakeholders to conduct a comprehensive assessment to guide future actions.

During the meeting, Gabkwet assured that the NAF is committed to professionalism and transparency in its operations, stressing its dedication to the protection of all Nigerians. He also highlighted the importance of conducting a thorough investigation into the reported incident.

Governor Lawal expressed his support for the NAF’s efforts against banditry and acknowledged the challenges of military operations, noting that while collateral damage is regrettable, it is sometimes an unfortunate side effect of the ongoing battle against insurgents.

Following the meeting, the team visited Tungar Kara, the site of the airstrikes, for an on-the-ground evaluation. The information gathered will be used to enhance NAF’s efforts in protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure in future operations against banditry and terrorism in the region.
