Sexual Abuse in Minna, themed “Encroachment: Identifying and Defining Boundaries,” Mrs. Bago emphasized the urgent need to protect vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.

She highlighted the devastating global rise in sexual violence cases, where survivors often remain silent due to cultural stigma, inadequate legal protections, and a lack of support systems.

“There is a gap between discussions and real-world actions,” Mrs. Bago stated. “While conferences and workshops are held, victims of gender-based violence are still waiting for justice and tangible support. We must go beyond talk and take actionable steps in our homes, schools, and workplaces.”

Touching on the conference’s theme, she defined “encroachment” as more than physical violations, encompassing any act infringing on another’s physical, emotional, or psychological space without consent.

“Boundaries are fundamental,” she added. “They safeguard our values, sense of self, and humanity. No one has the right to cross into another person’s space without permission.”

Chenemi Bamaiyi, the event’s convener, described the conference as a platform to raise awareness, educate young people about self-protection, and discourage acts of sexual violence. He emphasized the critical roles parents and teachers play in instilling values and resilience in the next generation to address this societal menace.

As stakeholders continue the dialogue, the Governor’s wife urged practical solutions to ensure a safer environment for all, especially women and children disproportionately affected by these crimes.
