Saudi Arabia, Alake emphasized the importance of ensuring local communities benefit from the rich mineral resources in their regions.

Promoting Sustainability in Mining
The FMF, themed “Year of Impact,” was held from January 14–16, 2025. Alake highlighted the global shift toward green energy and the increasing demand for critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel. He advocated for African nations to develop policies aligned with sustainability and urged the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) to lead efforts in establishing a cohesive framework for mineral exploitation.

“The AMSG serves as a platform for collaboration among African nations, promoting local value addition and ensuring resources benefit the communities where they are found,” Alake stated.

Tackling Challenges Through Collaboration
Alake also addressed challenges in technological capacity, proposing partnerships with developed nations to enhance local manufacturing capabilities. “By working together, African nations can overcome historical exploitation, foster sustainable practices, and attract responsible investments,” he added.

He emphasized that the AMSG’s role is vital in reshaping Africa’s mineral development narrative, focusing on sustainability, technological advancements, and local economic growth.
